I am 34 years old, living in Texas with my husband of almost
three years, our newborn baby girl, and our fur-baby. I work full-time as a high school guidance counselor.
I
had been overweight for as long as I can remember. I was always one of the largest girls in my classes in
elementary, middle, and high school, and I continued to gain weight through my
college years and even more so after beginning my career.
After
marrying VJ, my weight crept up to an all-time high of 239.4. This resulted in having to be put on
blood pressure medication. VJ and
I had started talking about having a family; however, my cardiologist and
ob/gyn both told me that I needed to lose weight if I wanted to be able to have
a healthy pregnancy and baby.
I
always knew that I needed to lose weight, and I always knew that I felt
miserable because of my extra weight.
I had known that for years… I don’t know why, but something finally
clicked inside me. I made my mind
up that I didn’t want to continue gaining and gaining. I went to my first Weight Watchers
meeting on March 28, 2010.
Don’t
get me wrong, this wasn’t my first attempt to lose weight. It wasn’t even the first time I had
joined Weight Watchers. The
difference was, it was the first time I had actually made a 100% commitment to
changing my life. I knew it
wouldn’t come off overnight, but I was ready for the journey.
After
some weight loss, I decided I wanted to start working out. I began with walking. I had always wanted to be someone who
could say I was a runner, but at almost 240 pounds originally, that was
impossible for me to do. Once I
had been walking a while and was down a total of 40 pounds, I decided to give
jogging a try. When I first
started out, I couldn’t run a block… before too long, I was able to jog 5 miles
without stopping.
By
the time I had been on Weight Watchers for a year, I had lost 77.6 pounds. Very soon after that, we found out we
were expecting our precious Mya.
While pregnant, I fell off the Weight Watchers wagon. I began gaining weight faster than I
should have. Overall, I gained
60.2 pounds during my pregnancy.
Mya
Elise was born December 13, 2011.
It was the best day of my life!
I went to my first weigh-in since pregnancy on January 1, 2012. The purpose of this blog will be to focus
on my new journey as a mom and my path to reaching my weight loss and fitness goals…
